Photos from Leprechaun & Tweed ArtRide 3/4; Join us on Saturday’s Parade Ride 3/12!

The sun set as we leprechaun and tweedy types gathered on the Ventura Beach Promenade where C St meets the sea for some photographs. About a dozen of us met for the March Fourth First Friday ArtRide. (Click on the photos to see them bigger–in some cases to see the whole image…by the way, some of the photos are by Daniel Boggs and some by my trusty iPhone…more to come!)
And yes, as you can probably tell, we were festively attired–including the young girl in the burley and the young boy on the trailer bike!

Since the beach promenade continues to be under reconstruction, after visiting the very engaging Black and White and the Blacklight show at the Artists Union, we rode up California past Photon (closed?) and up Main. Our next planned stop, CSUCI gallery on California and Main, was also closed so we surprised Roylin when we arrived at my art opening at Kama Sutra in the El  Jardin Courtyard a bit earlier than planned. Love Fox Vintage was also closed–they were  busy styling one of the acts for the evening’s Fashion Week show.

Here’s where I brag a little and say that people loved my show! Yay! The official opening is planned for the “real” St Patrick’s Day March 17. There’ll be wine, food, and real Irish music plus art and books–mine and one about two faerie sisters, Brigitta of the White Forest by Danika Dinsmore also out in 2011 from en theos press.

We connected with a few riders from the bike rodeo meeting and rode over to WAV which was also a ghost town due to the double whammy of a 40 artist group show at Bell Arts and the huge fashion week shindig. We rode up Ventura Avenue past Bell Arts to visit a show with a lot of “heart” at 643 Project Space. On our way to Bell Arts again, several of us stopped at a taco stand for some dinner and socializing.

Our last stop was Bell Arts Factory where a highlight of the show was certainly Cave-Woman by Borbala Arvai. I also really liked the large works by Michele Foster; she teaches free art classes to neighborhood youth at Bell Arts on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15-5pm and Saturdays from 10-noon.

Missed the Lerprechaun and Tweed ArtRide? Never fear–another ArtRide is here!

Calling all ye lively lads & lasses, lovely ladies & jolly gents! Join us for a jaunt on our two wheeled steeds down Main Street as part of the St Pat’s Parade! Leprechauns, fairies & children are welcome; ride at your own risk, however. No jeans, lycra & modern garb, please.

Parade starts at 10am; we’re supposed to show up at 8am but as long as people start trickling in between 9 and 930am, we’ll will be fine. We’d love to see lots of kids! Unlike the ArtRides where kids under 8 need to be on a trailer bike or a burley etc, kids under 8 can ride on their own bicycles for this daytime ride.

Our line up area is on Santa Clara St between Ventura Ave and Junipero St. (that’s one block east of Ventura Ave.) Get there as soon as you can: we’re in line up area “C” and our line place is # 70. Parade entry fee of $25 donated by Daniel Boggs. Thank you!

The VBU made 27 important improvements to the latest draft of the plan, which we understand will be incorporated by March 21. This is a critical hearing for citizens wishing to support safe bicycle streets in Ventura! Join us to speak up for safe streets for bicyclists!
