Join VBU for a Full Moon Ride 4/18

Join the Ventura Bicycle Union and friends for a Full Moon Bike Ride tomorrow, April 18, 2011, the night of the full moon! Meet at Mission Park downtown near the museum on Main at Figueroa ready to roll at 8pm.

Remember blinking red lights! If you don’t have lights, hopefully people will bring extra for you to borrow. We will start at Mission Park downtown, go to Ventura College a few short, mostly flat miles away and loop back–about 8 miles total.

This is just for fun so we will be riding at a leisurely pace. It’s also a good way to meet people in the Ventura Bicycle Union (VBU) Spread the word! Great way to start the full moon!

About the Magical Full Moon and Castle photo from APOD: Castle and Full Moon Credit & Copyright: Paolo Tanga, Observatoire de la Cote d’Azur

Explanation: Clouds couldn’t hide this bright Full Moon as it rose last week over the medieval castle of Tourrette-Levens near Nice, France. Exactly full on April 9 at 1456 UT, it followed the March equinox, making it the first Full Moon of spring in the north and autumn in the southern hemisphere. Known as the Easter Moon, it fixes the date for the celebration of Easter on the first Sunday after the first Full Moon of northern spring. Also called the Grass Moon or Egg Moon in the north, in the southern hemisphere, following the autumnal equinox, this Full Moon shines throughout the night as a Hunter’s Moon.

This is our first full moon of spring this year too so all of the above holds true for us! The sunset’s at 7:30pm and the moonrise’s at 8:40pm.

See you on the next ArtRide May 6 when we will have a sliver of a moonsmile in the sky for our “50s Dance Party on Two Wheels: A Greaser’s Bicycle Ball!” We meet at 5:30pm at the Ventura Beach Promenade and ride at 6pm.
