Bike Moves Hosts “Burning Man” Ride

Can’t make it to Black Rock City this year? Not sure what Burning Man is all about?
Or maybe you lagged and didn’t buy your ticket and now they’re all sold out?
Santa Barbara Bike Moves invites you to come down to the Wheelhouse Playa August 4th, Fiesta Thursday, and experience Burning Man Bike Moves style at 7:30pm!

WheelHouse Bikes

528 Anacapa Street
Santa Barbara, California

In the spirit of the Burning Man, Statemynt will not be charging a cover for Bike Moves on one of the busiest nights of the year and will be graciously making a donation to Don Riders! Not only that but they are going to throw in a bottle to the first people through the door! Best of all, DJ Kevlar is back from the Bubble Wrap and Duct tape party to throw down some real Burning Man beats.

So bust out that fur and dust off those desert goggles and be there for the sumo burn!

Freewheelin Farmers ArtRides August 5 & 6

When they announced the Ventura County Fair theme this year as “Bounty of the County,” we ArtRiders scratched our heads and wondered what we should do for our August ArtRide theme.

We struggled with what to call it but we finally settled on “Freewheelin Farmers” and Zanna made us this crazy flyer to pass out at our July 1 Flower Power ArtRide.

The obvious way to dress up is as farmers with flowers and vegetables in our baskets, panniers, and trailers.

But really, the bounty of our county goes beyond that.

We “farm” all kinds of things around here, including ART!

The San Buenaventura ArtRiders Bicycle and Social Club invites you to bring “The Bounty of the County” along for the next ArtRide, Freewheelin Farmers next Friday August 5 and to the Ventura County Fair Parade Saturday August 6.

Upcoming Rides: CM, SB’s Bike Moves, ArtRide, Parade Ride!

Here are 3 monthly rides to put on your calendar and one that happens only once a year.

The last Friday of the month is always a Critical Mass Ride; in Ventura it RIDEs in summer at 6:30.

More details below. The biggest most famous CM of them all is in SF. It meets in the Embarcadero at the end of Market Street. It is huge fun and as I’m in the Bay Area, I wish I was going but I have my son and we don’t have a bike for him that’s up for that ride.

The first Thursday of the month is Bike Moves in Santa Barbara which leaves the Wheelhouse at 7:30pm. The theme for August 4 is “Burning Man.”

The first Friday of the month is ArtRide in Ventura which meets outside the Artists Union Gallery and rides at 6pm. The theme for August 5 is “Freewheelin Farmers.”

And the first Saturday in August is the Parade Ride and we’ll be in it again this year as “Freewheelin Farmers”!

Ventura’s Beach Bike Path Open Again!

Jeff Belzer of Ventura Makos Surf Camp  http://www.venturamakossurfcamp.com sent me an email reminder that the Surfers Point Ribbon-Cutting (and Beach Cleanup) is this Saturday! So ride your bike over to celebrate!
Saturday July 16, 2011
 Beach Cleanup 8:30 – 10am
Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony  10:30 am
Free Parking at the Ventura County Fairgrounds – follow the event signs

This means we can once again ride our bikes along the promenade and the beach and up the Ventura River Trail Bike Path to Main on our ArtRides just in time for the August 5 “Freewheelin Farmers” ArtRide!

The Surfers’ Point bike path closed last winter for construction but the project has been 18 years in the making. The project provides major improvements to the area after the parking lot and bike path were heavily damaged by beach erosion. Key benefits of the
project include relocating the bike path and beach parking lot further inland out of harms way and protecting these improvements with cobble rocks that are buried under beach sand. The project also includes a new underground storm water filtration system to improve beach water quality by preventing pollutants from reaching the Ventura River Estuary and ocean. The public is invited to the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Ventura County Fairgrounds Surfers’ Point and bike path project, located at the Surfers’ Point parking lot, Ventura County Fairgrounds, 10 West Harbor Boulevard, on Saturday, July 16 at 10:30 am. A beach clean-up sponsored by Volunteer Ventura! (http://www.cityofventura.net/event/surfer039s-point-beach-cleanup) and co-host Surfrider Foundation, Ventura County Chapter, will be held before the ceremony from 8:30 am – 10 am.

PS My son attended a few days last summer and I really like Jeff and his staff. If your kid wants to learn how to surf, I  recommend Jeff Belzer of Ventura Makos Surf Camp  http://www.venturamakossurfcamp.com–drop in at $60 a day!
